WARNING! Nerdish rant about to commence.

I cannot stand the movie title 'Tangled', it shits me more than any other title I've heard in my movie watching life.  There's never been a film title that has gotten me more pissed off than this one, a stupid generic word that has absolutely no relevance to the film what so ever, and quite possibly one of the stupidest marketing decisions ever by Disney.  I refuse to call it 'Tangled' and instead refer to it as it should be, 'Rapunzel' and I dare say a lot of others feel the same.  So in my frustrations I took to manipulating the titles to the relative hi-res posters and soundtrack covers to read what it should say, for anyone who wishes to use the manipulated posters you can find the links here:

Rant over.

The marketing for this is totally different from any other Disney fairytale - with The Princess and the Frog they did the really traditional poster art as they have since lord knows when, probably The Little Mermaid, ie sillhouetted figures, sumptuous backgrounds, but The Princess and the Frog probably didn't do as well as they wanted it to.
A lot of people think they're the ones copying Dreamworks now, instead of the other way around. If you watch a lot of the trailers, a lot of the scenes aren't even in the movie, and make it look more like a road movie than a really traditional Disney fairy-tale.
'nother thing. Look at their eyebrows on that teaser poster. Then look at the eyebrows on any posters for any one of the recent Dreamworks movies [link] Mhmm. :eyes:
Leave it long enough and Dreamworks will very probably be leading in terms of style and format for family films.
One last thought! Having a title completely unrelated to what the actual thing is actually a really clever strategy in terms of advertising. It gets people talking, "Oh hey, have you seen the trailer for Tangled?" "Huh, what's Tangled?" and then the other person launches into a massive explanation. But you're right, little kids probably will be calling it 'Rapunzel'.

Sorry for taking so long to say so little! :D Good job with the retitled posters, I think the title actually looks more balanced with the lower shape of the 'R' in 'Rapunzel' than the 'g' in 'Tangled' :)
